James & Lucinda's great-grandson John Edward Buchanan (grandson of James S) drove all his livestock, on horseback, from his Gallatin farm on a cattle drive through the streets of downtown Nashville to Spring Hill. Later known for his prize mules, he some some to the U.S. Army during World War I and contributed to the establishment of Columbia's 'Mule Day' annual celebration.

This is the same man who, on  severing several fingers in a saw accident, reportedly picked up the severed members and calmly asked to go to the doctor,
